What a Shopify website design company should take off your store

KeyGrow is a Shopify website design company for brands whose stores feel slow or cluttered. Apps are often the cause. We move the features you use into your theme and remove the rest. Then we write product pages that settle shipping, returns and sizing before checkout. Most store builds cost $5,000 to $15,000.

  • A lighter storeFewer apps loading code on every page, and leftover code from old apps cleared out.
  • Answers before checkoutShipping cost, delivery time and returns shown on product and cart pages.
  • Templates that fitLayouts planned around how your best sellers are bought, not one page for everything.
  • Easier to runCustom sections you edit in the theme editor, so small changes never wait on a developer.

Our work

Sites our team designed and built

Real builds by our team, starting with a salon booking site and a technology platform. Neither is a store. Open one to judge our design and page speed for yourself.

Why KeyGrow

Why choose KeyGrow as your Shopify website design company

We treat speed as part of the design, and we tell you when you need less than a full store.

Every store starts clean. Then it needs reviews, so you add an app. Then bundles, a size chart, a popup and an upsell. Each app adds its own code, and some of it loads on every page. No single app ruins anything. Fifteen of them can make a store drag on a phone.

Shopify's own help center lists installed apps among the biggest factors in store speed. So a good rebuild usually starts with subtraction. We check what each app earns, rebuild the useful parts inside the theme and clear out what old apps left behind.

Checkout is the other half of the story. Unless you are on Shopify Plus, apps cannot add anything to the information, shipping and payment steps. That means product and cart pages win or lose the sale, so they need to carry the answers buyers want.

We start by subtracting

Before any design, we list every app with its monthly cost and what it does. Some go, and some become theme code.

Pages that answer buyers

We plan the product, cart and policy pages around the questions shoppers ask right before they pay.

Ads and SEO in-house

We also run Google Ads and SEO, so we build product pages that hold up when paid and search traffic lands on them.

Honest about size

Selling five products? Shopify's Buy Button, included in every Shopify plan, can put them on a regular site for far less than a full store.

Shopify and FTC rules that shape a store build

Four facts from Shopify's help center and the FTC, and what each one changes in the build. None of this is legal advice.

Apps slow stores down

Shopify's help center lists installed apps among the biggest factors in store speed. It also says uninstalling an app does not automatically remove its code from your theme.

What it means for your siteWe audit every app, remove the ones you can live without and clean out the code old apps left behind.

Checkout is mostly locked

Apps that add to the information, shipping and payment steps of checkout work only on Shopify Plus. On Basic Shopify and above, apps can extend the thank you and order status pages.

What it means for your siteOn most plans you win the sale before checkout. We show shipping, delivery and returns on product and cart pages, and use the thank you page for a survey or a next-order offer.

Shipping times are promises

The FTC Mail, Internet, or Telephone Order Merchandise Rule covers online orders. You must ship within the time you state, or within 30 days if you state none, and have a reasonable basis for the claim. If you cannot ship on time, you must tell the buyer and offer the choice to cancel.

What it means for your siteWe show delivery times your fulfillment can hit and keep them in one setting, so a supplier delay takes one edit, not fifty.

Reviews have rules

The FTC rule on consumer reviews took effect on October 21, 2024. It bans fake reviews and paying for reviews that must be positive or negative. The FTC also warns that arranging reviews so shoppers struggle to find bad ones could break the FTC Act.

What it means for your siteBefore launch we check your review app: all ratings stay visible, the star filter is on and requests go to every buyer.

What you get

What a store build with us includes

Half of this work removes things. The other half answers what shoppers ask right before they pay.

An app audit

Every installed app checked for cost, speed and use. You get a list of what stays, what goes and what moves into the theme.

Custom theme sections

Sections built for your products, so features like size charts, badges or comparison tables need no extra app.

Product templates by type

A simple item, a product with many variants and a made-to-order piece each get a layout that suits them.

Clear cart and policies

Full shipping cost shown early, plus shipping and returns pages written in plain words.

Review app setup

Every star rating stays visible, shoppers can filter by stars and every buyer gets a review request.

Platform moves

Moving from another platform? We map each old URL to its new page and set up redirects before launch.

How it works

How a Shopify build runs from audit to launch

Most stores take six to eight weeks. Large catalogs and platform moves take 10 to 12, and each step below stretches to fit.

Want to plan ahead? Our guide to keeping rankings through a redesign

  1. Days 1 to 3

    Audit apps and speed

We list your apps, what they cost and what code they load, then test speed on your home, collection and product pages.

  2. Week 1

    Plan templates

We sort your products by how they sell and plan a template for each group, plus the cart and policy pages.

  3. Weeks 2 to 3

    Design for phones first

You review the home, collection and product designs at phone size before anything else.

  4. Weeks 4 to 6

    Build the theme

We build custom sections, move app features into the theme where that makes sense and load your product data.

  5. Week 7

    Test real orders

We place test orders, check tax and shipping rates and test every redirect if you are changing platforms.

  6. Week 8

    Launch and watch

We launch, watch the first orders come through and fix bugs free for 30 days.

FAQ

Questions for a Shopify website design company

Store owners tend to ask these before they let anyone touch their theme. Still curious? Email sales@keygrow.co.

Customize, in most cases. A solid base theme with custom sections gets you most of the benefit for less. A fully custom theme makes sense when your products need layouts no theme offers.

There is no magic number. Judge each app by what it earns against what it costs in speed and fees. Shopify's own advice is to remove any app your sales do not need.

Not if we go in order. We remove one app at a time on a copy of your theme, test it, then clean up any code it left behind. Your live store stays untouched until the copy passes.

Partly. We can style checkout in Shopify's checkout editor and extend the thank you and order status pages on Basic Shopify and up. Adding blocks to the information, shipping and payment steps needs Shopify Plus.

Probably not yet. Plus earns its cost when you need apps inside the checkout steps or other Plus-only tools. Your audit will tell you whether you are there.

Yes. We move products, collections and content, then point every old URL to its new page with a redirect. We test those redirects before launch, so old links and search traffic still land somewhere useful.

We will not set a store up that way. The FTC's 2024 review rule bars suggesting the reviews you show are all or most of them while you hold back low ratings. Showing every rating, with a filter, is safer and looks more honest.

Yes. A new store follows the same rule from day one. You get a solid base theme, the sections your products need and only the apps that earn their place. Starting light is far easier than cutting apps later.

Most store builds run $5,000 to $15,000. A small catalog on a customized theme sits near the low end. Big catalogs, custom templates and platform moves push it higher.

Six to eight weeks for most stores. Large catalogs and platform moves can need 10 to 12 weeks.

Yes. Products, collections and policy pages stay in your Shopify admin. The custom sections we build appear in the theme editor, so you can swap text and images without code.
